I just came on to vent something I’ve been particularly pissed off with today.

Having came onto DA and Furaffinity and had a good look around to myself for the first time in a little while on the two sites since I’ve been away busy with the manga, I wanted to give a serious, pissed rant at the state of commission prices by freelancers recently. $5 for a pencil sketch commission? $15 for a full colour commission? Someone told me on messenger lately that there were prices like this before. Wrong. They were not in such severe abundance, and the artists that tended to REALLY sell their work at this price – lets face it people – were the ones that weren’t particularly getting any custom in the first place, and thus put it online at low “discount” prices or whatever.

Average commission prices, as I recall them, used to be a good $20, $30, or $40. Some of the popular artists asked for quite a substantial bit more, as I also recall. That was a while ago, but as someone else recently discussed, perhaps this is all due to the global financial crisis in the world that’s causing artists to drop their prices so low as they are now. Wrong. Let me share something with you; this is NOT a global financial crisis. The third world countries MIGHT have something to worry about, but I don’t believe in the slightest that the average British household has a single thing to worry about. I’ll venture to say average American households have nothing at all to worry about either, but anyway, since I’m in Britain, I’ll only refer to British households, whatever.

This is NOT a recession. It is nothing more than media-invoked bullshit at best.

Black Friday was a recession. The disaster under the Tori government was a recession.
THIS, is NOT a recession. And if it was, it would be a VERY small one in comparison.

So tell me why I see everyone selling commissions at these excrutiating low prices, when there are people out there who actually try to LIVE on the payments they make from their commissions. Its absolutely disgusting, and these people are not being ‘competitive’ or ‘financially wise’ or anything of that sort. They are being retarded. And they are killing the economy of selling commissions online. I find no point in doing a hard-made commission if all I’m going to get is $5, I’m sorry if anyone sees that any different, but I work really hard on a lot of my work and I think selling work for cheap prices like that is a bit like being a stinking, cheap whore who just wants to get as much custom as possible. Infact, your putting more work on yourself than a person selling one commission at $20. Infact, your doing four times the work, for the same amount of pay. I’m a largely traditional artist, I use watercolours, pens, anything I can get ahold of really. I play around with CG a bit, but not a lot to be honest. $15 in pound sterling wont buy me adequate materials, let alone make any form of life or profit from it. Look at the prices for these commissions, and then think about it – it isn’t a good thing, and it isn’t competitive. It isn’t marketable.

It’s the death-horn blowing on medium-popularity artists.

Put prices back up, people. Have a LITTLE pride, and a LITTLE faith in your work. A persons artwork is worth more than $5 a piece. I know for an absolute FACT that mines is, and if anyone thinks I’m being full of myself, you can shove it.

Bloody stupid people.

Anyway, I’ve started IKNK v3 and I’m about ¼ of the way through it now, lineart. My room is somewhat sorted now, and I’m moving onto the next-door bathroom to fix everything in there next for my mom. A whole new fitting is needed for the shower and the cistern, but I think the bath is okay. I’ll be putting up a percentage table to show how far the IKNK manga has gotten with each time I update. Need to go count everything up though, so the first real update will be next time I put up a journal, probably. <3
