Project: Wingheart Storyline!
So open up your morning light,
and say a little prayer on high;
You know that if we are to stay alive;
Well see the Peace in every eye.
In a war-torn Aerth, a few centuries after the Second Cataclysm, the southernmost Kingdom have developed into an almost pseudo-Victorian like era.
Magic is still seen as heracy, a huge area of knowledge that has been blocked off from the world for so long, that it is almost now, the stuff of fairy tales and legends. But thats a different story, from now.
Saar is a young 15 year-old boy living in the outskirts of the main southern city of London. He is deeply distraught when the story first starts, because his estranged father is being sent back from war abroad, in a coffin. He attends the funeral, and also the reading of the will, of which, Saar is given half of his fathers earnings; but more strangely a rather tempermental Harris Hawk, once used to courier messages across the battlefront, that once belonged to his father, called Woven.
Receiving information of Wingheart about to open, Saar, merely deciding to take the opportunity to allow Woven to spread her wings while he finds the bird a new owner, enters the tournament, and takes part in the beginning forum, the Wingheart Enclave, a sort of convention before the actual tournaments begin. For a long time now, the aristocracy of Aerth has highly prized the arts of hunting and of falconry as true noble arts, and Wingheart has been the fore-front of that belief; it was a series of tournaments designed to put to the test all of the Falconers of the known land.
The prize ten million Bars, in cash, up front, charitably donated by the Countess Genis Bureau, curator and founder of almost all of the arts of Falconry, save a select few around the world.
Mephis, a suspectedly corrupt government organisation intent on keeping the world wars going for the sake of personal income, quickly dispatch a few of their sentinels their own Falconers, and knowledgable researchers, to attempt to take the tournaments by storm.
There at the Wingheart Enclave before the tournaments, Saar meets Kurotto and Morgan, a solid couple who are entirely infatuated and in love with eachother despite their many differences, and quickly becomes friends with them. Kurotto trains a Peregrine Falcon, while Morgan trains a Saker Falcon. He meets one of his old Preparatory School friends, Santino, at the enclave also though Santino is no real Falconer, he is obsessed with the ideals of it all and the art of it, and is generally a very intelligent and in-depth hobbyist on the subject. He keeps five Little Owls, which are extremely volatile birds, yet are calm as cushions around their just-as-little owner, in a way, showing his big heart for his cohorts.
After Saar and Woven lose an unofficial sparring round to Kurotto and his Peregine Falcon Caldax, a smooth-talking red headed young male called Irvine decides to help coach Saar, Morgan and Kurotto together. Irvine was defeated in previous years by sentinels of the Mephis organisation, and despises them utterly. Having retired and having witnessed his own bird companion torn to shreds and devoured by a less than forgiving Mephis sentinels bird, Irvine takes on responsibilities within the group as a coach and to keep spirits up, as well as a bit of a research back-up for Santino.
As for Saar, he also meets the charming Ardescat during the 1st Official Tournament, a true, loyal and aligned sentinel of Mephis. Though seemingly lonely and sad, Ardescat remains aloof and defensive at all times and is trained highly to back herself up. Her Gyrfalcon, Eurasi, is a vicious fighter, and Ardescat herself takes on a ferocious demeanour during the face-offs within the Tournaments. But as if the double-trouble of Kurotto and Morgan, or the overwhelming strengths of Mephis Falconer Ardescat werent enough, the Mephis organisation, seeing things may be a little too difficult for Ardescat herself to win outright, send in their best and most vicious Falconer - Marduke - a genius of the said art, but in learning almost all there was to know of Falconry, he drove himself mad, and now only lives for the true battle; and for his ultimate opponent. That, and Mardukes falconry companion is anything but a normal bird. With these, and many more rivals to contend with, Saar has his work cut out for him, and though he has never put on a Falconry Glove before in his life, he will soon be taking on seasoned professionals in the art.
Five tournaments. A ten-million Bar prize. Increasingly difficult opponents and rivals.
It isnt long before Saar learns of the Mephis organisations motives to continue the world wars at any cost, and by winning the tournament and gaining the prize money, Mephis will be able to fund huge Airships to merely toy with other warring countries, and possibly drag the wars out for an entire century if need be, all for the sake of profit by their war machine commissioners.
Saar lost his father to war. He watched his mother die inside, as her husband walked away from his family to go and fight in a foreign land for some unseen gain. He has witnessed the devastation it causes to all of the Kingdom, as well as what it must cause to other countries around the world. For the first time, Saar has a purpose, and he is starting to suspect that his Harris Hawk Woven wasnt sent to him; and him alone; for just any old reason. Saar will have all of the money he has ever dreamed of having, and though he is unsure what he will do with it, he will at first, have to realise the dreams of nations of people, all over the world of Aerth..
Peace.
And that means winning the Wingheart Tournaments.. whatever the cost, and then using that prize money, to stave off the ultimate sacrifice.
