Kaspar Hauser from 'War of the Ghosts', my upcoming entry for the UK and Ireland Rising Stars of Manga competition. I was just really excited about the entire storyline (which I won't be telling) and what happens (which I wont be saying) and the characters (this is all youll be seeing for now) that I wanted to do an art on it.
Kaspar Hauser, btw, was someone of great mystery, supposedly an actual person, and many strange events and happenings occured in his presence and when finally, he just disappeared off of the map, as far as I can recall. Do some research! -Tells self that as well- .. -_-
Re-research Kaspar Hauser. Ahem.
Anyway, its all very.. wierd, Matrixy, Head-F**k-like, and you dont really get whats going on, but by the end, you see that every teeny tiny detail makes sense. Every clock in the comic is going back an hour, rooms are identical and mirrored with other rooms, some rooms are upside down, the building itself being like a kindof lab-rat maze.
Kaspar, in the story, we aren't sure what he is, but he has a special power which strangely, the rest of the asylum staff have not noticed yet. He keeps one eye covered, because it is monstrously deformed, and shrieks loudly when uncovered, exploding, blowing apart, or opening doors that would otherwise remain locked, as well as seeing illusions for what they are.
Think Horus and the "Eye of Truth".
Anyway, I can tell a lot of where the ideas come from - through the looking glass, the matrix, headf**k, kaspar hauser himself, and a lot more, but I won't go into all that for now. And I've also got a secret weapon - something NO other manga has EVER used in its pages before, making 'War of the Ghosts' possibly one of the newest and most originally designed manga yet.
i like how you based it on a song [if u didnt please tell me but thats wat i guessed from the quote...] must try that some time. kinda reminded me or this... no offence lol xxx
Yep, the quote is from Evanescence' song; The Open Door.
A lot of the inspiration from the story I'm intending to make for War of the Ghosts comes from an old psychology textbook I have, and all of the mystery books I own, as well as psychological thrillers/horror movies like 'Brain Dead' and so on. ^^ And of course, things like Matrix and Lawnmower man, where reality is not really what it seems. But I won't bore you with all of it, in any case. ^_^;
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.

In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
The Cutting Edge is a weekly article that features brand new selected high quality art products that caught our eyes. Check out the cutting edge prints some of your fellow artists have submitted in the past week!
